Localisation and monitoring of animals through IoT devices with satelital technology.

about catset.

/executive overview

CATSET will develop a comprehensive solution for animal monitoring based on an IoT device with satellite connectivity that guarantees its operability anywhere in the world. This device communicates with a platform that converts the information into advice and actions to be implemented by farmers with the aim of improving the profitability of farms, the quality of life of farmers and animal health and welfare. There are more than 1 billion head of cattle in the world (main market) with the main markets being the USA, EU, LATAM and Australia.

The consortium that will develop the project is formed by the Canadian company Laipac, which is the leader of the project and the company in charge of developing the IoT device thanks to its extensive experience developing hardware devices; by the French company Kineis, which is the first company to provide satellite connectivity for IoT devices, as well as developing its own communication module; and by the Spanish company Digitanimal, which will be in charge of developing the algorithm and the platform for the user.

The livestock sector needs a complete decision support solution: a small size ear tag, the most advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, and global coverage connectivity. Currently, the lack of coverage excludes some markets (such as Australia, Canada…) and solving this problem thanks to satellite connectivity could increase sales by 30%. From a technical point of view, the project will allow the development of new animal monitoring algorithms through which it will be able to increase the functionalities offered with its solutions. Thanks to these algorithms, we will be able to know at all times what the animal is doing in order to establish health patterns, reproductive patterns and animal welfare patterns that will lead to an improvement in livestock farms and greater efficiency and sustainability.

goals.

/we are looking for…

CATSET’s main objective is to develop a comprehensive solution for animal monitoring based on an IoT device with satellite connectivity. In order to achieve this goal, we are looking for:

\
Technical objective: develop a satellite IoT device with processing capabilities in the device itself and capable of sending information from anywhere to a platform with advanced processing algorithms that allow modelling animal behaviour and thus generate alerts and recommendations on animal health, welfare and reproductive states. Thanks to this combination of IoT device, satellite connection and processing algorithms, the aim is to make a technological leap forward with respect to the current state of the art in livestock monitoring solutions, which is a growing market at a global level.
\

Commercial objective: to have a new complete solution for farmers that covers all their needs in terms of coverage and decision support. In this way, the connectivity barrier is broken, enabling new commercial strategies and business models.

\

Strategic objectives:

– To be able to address new markets currently not addressable due to lack of terrestrial connectivity such as Australia.

– To commercialise a pioneering solution in the sector that covers all needs in terms of coverage and decision support.

\

Enviromental objective: we intend to include in the project’s cloud platform recommendations for the optimisation of grazing that will result in better environmental management of the environment and public resources. This tool will make recommendations using information from IoT devices on the ground and using satellite imagery.

partners.

/who are we?

The CATSET project will be implemented by three companies. The details of these companies and a summary of their role within the project are as follows:

LAIPAC

Canadian project leader and hardware development company. As a result of the project it will generate an IoT device for animal monitoring.

KINEIS

French company in charge of providing satellite connectivity and long-range communication modems. As a result of the project it will generate a long-range communication module based on satellite communication.

DIGITANIMAL

Spanish company in charge of developing algorithms and apps. As a result of the project, it will generate a cloud platform based on artificial intelligence algorithms capable of generating recommendations to increase the profitability of livestock farming.
